Humanity’s Ultimate Project—Our Own Salvation
The Earth is dying, its populace ravaged by a bitter nuclear war. Brittle nations grapple with each other over land and life. To some, there is a higher prize: three sleeper ships built as part of a decades-old government project. In the waning hours of civilization, Dr. Benedict sends these ships in the void of space in a desperate gamble to find a fresh start for the six thousand civilians onboard.
The fates of those innocent men, women, and children are in the hands of the Air Force crews chosen for the Project. But as a young crewman unexpectedly dies and details of a conspiracy come to light, the stakes for all aboard become clear. Lieutenant Darius Owens, a computer specialist, must work to shield the colonists from this new threat while struggling to reconcile a deep rift between the ship commanders. Navigator Kimura finds herself on the defensive, accused of being party to her father’s treason, even as she uncovers the terrible truth of her crewmate’s actions. Eighteen-year-old Cal McLaughlin awakens from his sleep and is thrust into a world for which he is ill prepared, yet the lives of thousands of citizens are unknowingly placed into his unsteady hands.
And their decades-long journey is only beginning…
This single volume contains all five novels in the Project Columbus series. From launch to the drying of ink on the final page, the saga awaits.

Read information about the authorJ.C. Rainier is product of the Pacific Northwest, born in the Seattle area in 1978, and living in the Puget Sound area his whole life. He is the younger of two children in his family, and his older brother proved to be a giant pest up through his teenage years (as siblings tend to be).
J.C.’s parents were both educators working at the middle school level, and he married into another family of educators. In his family, counting in-laws, there are now two retired principals, two retired teachers, a retired school counselor, and an active science teacher.
In his youth, J.C. read quite a lot. The Call of the Wild was one of his early favorites, and into middle school he began to devour other books such as Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series. Unfortunately, J.C. developed a form of dylexia that made reading from the page of a book difficult. It was later discovered that the curvature of the page itself caused the issue, and the advent of the eReader (with its perfectly flat screen) has allowed him to once again enjoy reading as he used to.
He enjoys both indoor and outdoor pursuits including computers, cars, and camping. J.C. and his wife enjoy hockey, and set aside time several times each season to watch the local WHL franchise. They are raising three boys, including a set of twins.
