Read full description of the books:

I can't recall who said it (probably Nabokov), but there was an author who said that the best translations of poetry were by other poets (e.g. Baudelaire of Poe), since they had some understanding of the intricacy and detail of the language, of the sounds of each word, the pace of the meter.

Heaney rendered Beowulf into direct and forceful English, and this volume comes to us as a posthumous gift. Book VI has the most memorable scenes in the poem - the prophecy of the Sibyl of Cumae, her leading Virgil into the underworld, seeing the tortured spirits of the dead, speaking with the spirit of his father - and some of the most tedious - the long recitation of Roman heroes shoehorned in for domestic propaganda. Yet Heaney makes the best portions shine, and the worst parts tolerable.

It's the Aeneid! Will this translation last for a few more centuries? I can't answer that but if the world is still here next year, I think this will too.

Read information about the author

Ebook Virgil: Aeneid VI read Online! Publius Vergilius Maro (October 15, 70 BCE – September 21, 19 BCE), usually called Virgil or Vergil /ˈvɜrdʒəl/ in English, was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. He is known for three major works of Latin literature, the Eclogues (or Bucolics), the Georgics, and the epic Aeneid. A number of minor poems, collected in the Appendix Vergiliana, are sometimes attributed to him.

Virgil is traditionally ranked as one of Rome's greatest poets. His Aeneid has been considered the national epic of ancient Rome from the time of its composition to the present day. Modeled after Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, the Aeneid follows the Trojan refugee Aeneas as he struggles to fulfill his destiny and arrive on the shores of Italy—in Roman mythology the founding act of Rome. Virgil's work has had wide and deep influence on Western literature, most notably the Divine Comedy of Dante, in which Virgil appears as Dante's guide through hell and purgatory.

Reviews of the Virgil: Aeneid VI

MICHAEL

This book is awesome!

NATHAN

A cozy book that teaches small things, happiness, in detail!

EMMA

The idea is great, but sometimes the text suffers

CAMERON

This is a very predictable author. When you get a book for free, you can read it. The intrigue is present, the unbundling is clear.

LEAH

All right, thanks fast.
