A Journey Through Mind and Space
A Stoner’s Guide to Enlightenment: The Psychology of Spirituality… is a reflection of my personal journey toward realization. It is an example of how anyone, from any walk of life, may achieve such a state. However, to be clear, I do not claim to be totally enlightened, but I do claim semi-enlightenment, which is actually not all that uncommon. In here I attempt to show that there are many paths to enlightenment and that one should not limit themselves to the obvious choices.
This is not a ‘How To’ book. Nor is it a book ‘For Dummies’. It’s not a self-help book either, though it might help the self. And I’m not suggesting that anyone follow my example. I only use it to show how one unremarkable person may reach such states of realization.
My path began with the study of psychology, transitioned with psychedelics and muted into some form of meditation. Though I don’t suggest you follow my lead, I do believe that dissection of your character is important. Knowing my self was vital to my development. I learned that simple acts of honesty allowed me to do that.
I don’t profess that I will awaken anyone else. That’s the job of the individual. There’s no magic solution within these pages. Sorry! I know that’s what you want to hear, and what many authors try to sell you, but this text puts the responsibility squarely on your shoulders. Actual work must be done by you. Contrary to popular belief, no one else can do it for you. So if you’re looking for something to comfort or stroke your ego, this isn’t it.
Exploration of the individual can be a grueling task, which is why honesty is so important. When the personality feels endangered there can be a severe backlash. Our personal programming holds firm and it takes a great deal of effort to get it to budge.
I’m no guru, Sufi, priest or even a charlatan. I need no special dispensation. I’m just a regular guy, and that’s the point. I don’t present myself as an authority, and even go as far as to discredit myself to some degree, so that the readers may feel free to inject their own voice. I want people to argue with my points or get angry or laugh. Not just nod and agree or be confused. This is not for you to look at me; it’s to get you to look at you (honestly).
