Read full description of the books:
Real Men Wear Beige is about one man’s journey through the criminal justice system and his incarceration after receiving a 5 year prison sentence on an Official Misconduct charge. The book reveals some hard, cold facts about prison life through a very expressive and provocative story and does so in a poignant and somewhat “tongue in cheek” manner. The book “Orange is the New Black” by Piper Kerman could be considered comparable in terms of its depiction of prison relationships, comradery and setting, but the incredible journey depicted in Real Men Wear Beige is a bit “rougher and tougher,” reflecting the differences between the women’s and men’s prison environment. The journey is intense, informative and enlightening.
The book exudes an accurate and realistic perspective of what incarceration is really all about and illustrates how people in any setting, whether free, or restrained, or cast into the most abrasive of circumstances, are incredibly consistent. The most bizarre, often callous, often amusing and sometimes ironic examples of plain old unadulterated humanity are interspersed throughout the story in a series of intriguing and entertaining episodes… like an expose' of the peculiarities that exist when you mix concrete and steel bars with dissonance and outrageous personalities.
The story movingly expresses the innermost thoughts, fears and emotions that one experiences while incarcerated. These deep feelings, sometimes incensed and sometimes heartwarming, are often revealed through song lyrics that were written behind the walls of prison and are now available on the Real Men Wear Beige Soundtrack at www.rmwbeige.com.
